At the AEA 2017 Evaluation Conference, participants explored “Overcoming Obstacles to Evaluation Use: Perspectives from Donors and Evaluators.” Among other things, experts on both sides admitted that often evaluation reports are too long, too dense, and written for a narrow technical audience. Social Impact, along with MasterCard Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Freedom House, and USAID, presented six key takeaways for making evaluations useful. Tips for making evaluations useful including make linkages, give space to reflect, design for the audience, design for use, follow up, develop capacity.
