Goal

To provide USAID/Afghanistan with an additional layer of data on project implementation. This data allows technical offices to compare information from their own monitoring efforts with independent monitoring data. Then they can make evidence-based management decisions on the performance of their projects.

Activity

  • As a subcontractor to IDS International, Social Impact provides technical advice and support for monitoring and verification (M&V) outputs, outcomes, and impact in accordance with USAID policies and regulations. In addition, SI identifies and develops customized tools, and shares best practices on M&V. SI also designs customized M&V training modules, technical assistance plans, and other support needed to strengthen the local monitoring capacity.
  • SI’s work directly supports development effectiveness by providing new tools and approaches to data collection to confirm USAID’s impact. SI objectively monitors the activities and accomplishments of USAID’s interventions. At the same time, SI builds the capacity of beneficiaries and stakeholders to participate in active monitoring of programs that affect their lives and livelihoods.

Results

The project developed a Monitoring – Capacity Assessment Tool (M-CAT) for work with local organizations. This tool helps organizations assess the critical elements for effective monitoring and verification, and identifying those areas that need strengthening or further development.
