Goal:
The SKYE project aimed to reduce violence in Guyana through increased economic participation and civic engagement of at-risk youth. SI’s mid-term performance evaluation of the project was to assess whether the project was on target to meet its objectives and identify successes and challenges the project faced.
Activities:
SI conducted the evaluation using a mixed methods approach including a close-ended survey, qualitative interviews, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews.
- Conducted a survey of 397 youth; 40 qualitative interviews with youth; 9 focus groups; and 69 key informant interviews.
- Created of a Youth Advisory Group (comprised of youth beneficiaries from targeted regions) to advise on the data collection instruments and disseminate findings.
Results:
According to USAID, “The evaluation’s findings have been used to inform program planning and implementation, through to the program’s end date. This has included modifications to approaches, activities and other areas of implementation. Findings were also used to inform modifications to monitoring and evaluation efforts. Information revealed in the evaluation on at-risk youth programming and workforce development activities was also used to inform program planning for future assistance anticipated in Guyana and the Caribbean region.”
